I want to say to all of Paul’s family and friends how sorry Angie and I are that we cannot be there with you all today.  Paul was a good friend and brother in the Lord and we loved him and prayed for him often.
It’s hard to believe that Paul is gone.  It seems like only a few days since I first met Paul but it has been 40 years.  I still remember when Paul and I lived together in Tempe.  We were on our way home from Scottsdale one day and we stopped at Jack in the Box to get something to eat.  There was a biker and his girlfriend there so we  tried to share the Lord with them but they just laughed and the biker pointed to his bike and said, “this is my god.”  Paul looked at him and said in a simple humble way, “you should not trust in uncertain gods,” they laughed again and rode off.  Paul and I got our food and headed down Scottsdale Road, we had not gone a half mile when we saw the bike in the middle of the road split in two and the biker laying on the road beside his girlfriend.  We stopped and bent over them and began to share the Lord with them, this time they did not laugh, they were hurting and in trouble and knew they needed Him.  We prayed with them to receive the Lord, then we prayed for their healing.  We had no anointing oil so Paul dipped his finger in the motor oil that was on the road, anointed them, and we prayed.  As we were praying the girl began to cry, “the pain is going away, the pain is going away.”  I will never forget the way Paul prayed that day  it was so simple, so believing, so full of faith.  And I will never forget how fast the Lord answered that prayer.  When I first met Paul he was so simple and full of faith in the Lord, he really believed and trusted the Lord for all things.  Through the years though Paul did not always live the way he knew he should, he didn’t do the things he knew he should. Yet when it came down to it he never lost his belief in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  There is no one who does not make mistakes. There is no one that does not fail in their Christian walk at one time or another.  Paul is now resting from his works and he is in the hands of a merciful and loving God that will one day  judge us all.  I believe if Paul could say something to us today he would tell us not to waste our time on the things of this world because they are truly passing away.  He would encourage us to watch and pray because the time is getting ever shorter.  To not be ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ for it is the power of God unto salvation.    I know that Paul would not want anyone that is here today to leave without knowing Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.  If you are here today and do not know the Lord I would ask you to receive Him today, we don’t know when the Lord will come again or when he will call for us to come home. Now is the day of salvation.  We are not promised tomorrow but we do have right now.  The Lord through His death on the cross and His resurrection has paid the price for your sin if you would just receive Him calling on His name.

Let us Pray:
Lord Jesus I come to you just as I am.  I confess that I am a sinner and need a Savior.  I am asking you Lord to come into my heart and forgive me of all my sins.  Thank you Lord for hearing and answering my prayer.
From this day on I will love you and serve you till you come or call me home.  I am yours and you are mine for all eternity, in Jesus name, Amen.

Now if there are any here that, like Paul, have not been living the way they know they should be, if you have been distracted by the cares of this life, I would ask you to pray with me to rededicate our lives to the Lord.

Let us Pray:
Lord Jesus I come to you just as I am.  I ask you Lord to forgive me for not living my life for you alone.  Help me Lord to keep my heart turned to you and my eyes fixed on your lovely face.  From this day on I consecrate myself to live for you and you alone.  Help me Lord to read your word daily, to live a life that is worthy of you.  May my daily living express You in all things that others may see Christ in me and be drawn to you, in Jesus name,  Amen.

Our love and prayers to Paul’s family and friends and may the Lord comfort you in your sorrow.
